NJ Woman Killed in New Year’s Eve Fire

A three-alarm fire on New Year’s Eve in an apartment building in Passaic left a 50-year-old woman dead and displaced more than 20 families, CBS New York reports.

The fire broke out around 9:35 p.m., on Madison Street near Gregory Avenue prompting an all-hands effort. Firefighters, police, residents, and even members of a neighboring motorcycle club worked to rescue residents.

A woman, who lived in the first-floor apartment where the fire started, died. Her husband was critically injured in the fire.

Two police officers sustained injuries attempting rescues, and several other residents were hurt in the incident.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
