NM Firefighters Forced Out of Station by Bats

Albuquerque (NM) firefighters were forced to leave station one Tuesday night because of a bat infestation.

KRQE reported (http://bit.ly/O2Dfox) that reported the bat problem to Animal Welfare Monday but it’s not clear how long the bats have been inhabiting the downtown station. Firefighters relocated for the night so that pest control crews could clear out the animals.

Animal Welfare says it is policy to put the bats down and then test them for rabies. The fruit bats were found upstairs in the fire marshals office as well as in the firefighters’ living areas.
