No Working Smoke Alarms Suspected After Family of Three Die in PA House Fire

According to a report from ABC6, a mother, father, and their 14-year-old son died in an early morning fire in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, early Monday morning.

The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office pronounced 48-year-old Joseph Norton dead at Pottstown Hospital from smoke and soot inhalation. His 47-year-old wife Bernadette was later pronounced dead as well. Their 14-year-old son’s name was not released.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but fire officials said it did not appear the home had working smoke detectors.

Fire crews were able to rescue residents living in the home attached to the fire home.

Fire officials also said they have an idea of how the fire may have started, but they are not yet ready to release a statement.
