North Carolina Firefighter Injured After Falling Through Ceiling at House Fire

A firefighter was injured when he fell through a ceiling while battling a blaze at a Matthews house fire, reports wbtv.com.

Firefighters got the call at 8:30 p.m. from a home on the 700 block of Selma Burke Lane. Investigators told Time Warner Cable that the fire is believed to have started around a vehicle outside, and spread to the attic inside the house.

One firefighter was in the attic when they fell through the ceiling, landing in a room where there was no fire, and fellow firefighters were able to get him out quickly.

The fire chief told Time Warner Cable that he believes the firefighter may have had a medical issue which caused him to fall.

The firefighter, whose name has not been released, was taken to Carolinas Medical Center, where he will remain overnight.

Officials say OSHA is investigating the incident because the firefighter was injured.
