North Las Vegas (NV) Firefighters Battle Recycling Yard Fire

Firefighters with the North Las Vegas (NV) Fire Department battled a fire at a recycling yard yesterday that sent up huge plumes of black smoke that were visible for miles around.

The Las Vegas Review Journal (http://bit.ly/1jzn5pd) notes that no one was injured in the fire. All workers at the yard escaped. More than 100 firefighters responded to the scene from three different fire departments.

The site of the fire, Republic Services, accepts many flammable materials such as paint thinners, fertilizers, gasoline, lighter fluid, cooking and automobile oil, batteries, and old electronics. There were also hazardous materials at the site, but the fire did not affect them. The fire burned mostly bundles of cardboard and plastic, sending up flames as high as 50 feet into the air.
