Fire Crews Battle Huge Fire in Large Norwood Park (IL) Home

Firefighters contended with severe cold while responding to an early morning fire yesterday in a very large home in Norwood Park, Illinois.

Fire photographer Steve Redick, who was on hand to catch photos of the incident, said the structure was almost “mansion size,” and that it presumably contained modern lightweight construction features.

The fire was on a small intersection only accessible from two directions. Crews encountered heavy fire and reports indicated they had serious problems getting water, presumably from frozen hydrants.

Several persons were reported trapped or missing on fire department arrival, and searches were attempted but all occupants were apparently accounted for early in the operation.

The fire gained tremendous headway and consumed the entire building, which was torn down later in the day.
