NY Chief Mourns Victim of CT School Shooting

White Plains (NY) — Retired White Plains, New York, fire chief Thomas Gorbutt will be traveling from his White Plains home to Newtown, Connecticut., this week to attend the funeral of his great-niece, killed by the Connecticut school gunman on Friday.

Grace McDonnell, 7, was the granddaughter of his sister, Mary Ann McDonnell.

Gorbutt said the family had requested minimal contact with the media, and he wished to honor their request.

Grace McDonnell, a first-grader and one of 20 children gunned down Friday in her Newtown elementary school, was described by her grandmother in an interview with the Boston Herald as a “girly girl” who played dress-up with her grandmother’s jewelry and liked the color pink.
