NY Firefighters Battle Industrial Fire

The Fuller Road Fire Department was dispatched to a working structure fire at 35 Maplewood Avenue in the town of Colonie, just outside of Albany on Thursday January 27, according to a report from Asst Chief Steve Savoca and Lieutenant Nicholas Truax.

The structure was a single story, block construction industrial building, housing a company called Corrosion Specialties. The first arriving units verified the working structure fire, with the heaviest volume in the Charlie Delta corner of the structure.

The contents of the building included solvents, resins and different corrosives. The contents of the building dictated an exterior only attack and command employed that tactic upon arrival of all units.

The initial attack was made with a 2” hose flowing AFFF foam, a 2.5” hose flowing water though a smooth bore nozzle, and a standard 1.75” line with an automatic nozzle flowing water as well. The fire was deemed under control at approximately 18:30. Mutual aid was provided by West Albany FD, Colonie Fire Company, and Midway FD.
