A funeral is set to be held today in New York City for Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Christopher Slutman, who was killed in a bombing in Afghanistan. Slutman was also a decorated firefighter with the Fire Department of New York (FDNY).
Slutman, 43, was honored in a three-state procession that saw his body transported from Dover Air Force Base to Joseph Lucchese Funeral Home in the Bronx. Firefighters from across the region lined roadways to pay tribute.
Slutman was honored by the FDNY for rescuing a woman from a burning high-rise during an incident five years ago. He was a member of the department for 15 years, and also served with the Kentland (MD) Volunteer Fire Department.
