The Ocala International Airport control tower notified Ocala (FL) Fire Rescue of an aircraft crash on January 27, 2012.
Firefighters responded at 12:30 p.m. to the incident located off airport property, south of Southwest 38th Street in a vacant field. On arrival, firefighters found a twin piston Cessna aircraft on fire, as well as the grass surrounding the aircraft.
The plane crash resulted in one fatality, and one person on board being transported to a local hospital. Several bystanders who initially attempted to assist at the scene suffered smoke inhalation and were evaluated by paramedics. One bystander was transported to the hospital.
Sixteen firefighters manning six fire apparatus including the Aircraft Rescue Firefighting (ARFF) truck responded to the scene. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) was notified.
