Off-Duty Firefighter Helps People Escape Burning OR Home

An off-duty firefighter helped rescue two people from a burning vacant home Wednesday in Portland, Oregon.

According to The Oregonian (http://bit.ly/UIEiOH), William Earl spotted smoke about 10:35 a.m. while driving by the home and called 911. Earl saw a man and woman inside and, with the help of another passer-by, helped them escape through a window.

The victims were taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
