Officials say an off-duty firefighter was killed in a rappelling accident Friday morning on Camelback Mountain, reports azcentral.com (http://bit.ly/X6UmPG)
The firefighter, Gary Johnstone, was one of three men who had fallen about 30 feet while rappelling near the Echo Canyon trail.
Earlier, a Phoenix Fire spokesman said two men were taken to a hospital with critical injuries. A third man had minor injuries.
Firefighters climbed about 200 yards above the Echo Canyon trailhead in response to the call of three injured people around 7 a.m., according to Phoenix Fire Capt. Benjamin Santillan.
