An off-duty Texas firefighter tackled a suspect during an apparent armed robbery of a convenience store in Midlothian, Texas, and surveillance cameras caught the action on video.

Mansfield Firefighter Daniel Gaskey stopped at the store on June 26 when a 19-year-old male pushed past him and brandished a hunting knife, according to KDFW.

Gaskey says he heard the robber demand money before acting. He controlled the weapon and took the suspect to the ground.

“I’m going to maintain control of the weapon, but if I miss the weapon, I’m going to be so close to his back he won’t be able to maneuver his arm around to move me in the process,” Gaskey told reporters. He held the man until police arrived.
