Ohio Fire Marshal Starts Investigation in Fire that Killed Three Children

A father remains in critical condition Saturday as investigators begin piecing together what sparked a Friday morning house fire that took the lives of three of his children, reports wcpo.com.

Siblings Yesenia,12, Siclali, 10, and Alexander Flores-Ortiz, 7, died in a bedroom of the two-story house located at 135 Franklin St. after a fire broke out there at about 3 a.m.

“The father attempted to rescue the three kids upstairs and he was found (unconscious) on the scene and we flew him to University Hospital,” said Ken Runyan, Hamilton Deputy Fire Chief Ken Runyan.

Ismael Flores-Ortiz suffered burns and remained in critical condition as of late Friday night. A cousin, Jose Flores, and an aunt, Yesina Corona, said Ismael’s wife, Crystal Flores, was by his side at UC after being treated at Fort Hamilton Hospital.

Two of the Flores-Ortizes’ five children, a 2-and-9-year-old, survived the fire. The 9-year-old was unharmed and with relatives Friday evening.  The toddler was at Fort Hamilton Hospital, officials said Friday.

The state’s fire marshal office was expected to sift through the house Saturday morning to determine what started the fire. No preliminary cause has been released by investigators.
