One Dead and One Injured in Norwalk (CA) House Fire

One person was killed and another injured after firefighters battled a blaze that destroyed a Norwalk home early Friday morning, reports the Los Angeles Times (http://tinyurl.com/htge252)

About 25 firefighters responded to the fire inside a two-story home at 10802 Van Ruiten St. at 3:07 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Firefighters extinguished the flames by 4:13 a.m. and continued to monitor hot spots in the home for any flare-ups, Inspector Randall Wright said.

Smoke and fire filled the house after medical oxygen cylinders exploded, Wright said, and the flames caused the roof to collapse.

One person was transported to an area hospital, he said. The other was “unaccounted for” for a period of hours because structural damage prevented firefighters from entering the building. Officials eventually recovered the body.
