According to a report from ABC7, one person is dead and another injured in a fire and explosion at the Seneca Petroleum plant in Lemont, Illinois, Tuesday morning.
The Will County Sheriff’s Office said the explosion occurred in an asphalt tank. The injured victim was taken to Silver Cross Hospital.
Multiple agencies aided the Lemont Fire Department in the response, and the fire was brought under control. Fire officials said they do not believe any type of hazardous material was released, and the public is not in any danger. Officials also advised residents to avoid the area of 127th Street and New Avenue.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) as well as ComEd have been called to the scene.
Seneca Petroleum had not been cited for any previous OSHA violations at this location.
