One Dead, Massive Fire Erupts After Fuel Tanker Crash in CT

According to a report from The New York Post, the driver of a fuel tanker was killed and two others were injured Friday morning after the tanker collided with another vehicle and rolled over on Connecticut’s Gold Star Memorial Bridge between Groton and New London, causing a massive fire.

The accident happened at around 11:30 a.m. Multiple civilian videos showed violent flames and billowing black smoke on the bridge. The damage spread to nearby buildings as first responders struggled to contain the fire.

The tanker’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while the two passengers in the other car were transported to a local hospital. The identities of the victims have not been released.

First responders closed I-95 during the initial cleanup. By 12:50 p.m., Connecticut State Police confirmed that northbound lanes had reopened while southbound lanes remained blocked.
