One Dead, One Injured in Fire at CT Collyer’s Mansion

One person is dead and another injured after a Tuesday morning fire in a debris-filled home in Greenwich, Connecticut.

WTNH reports (http://bit.ly/UdgMvk) that Dean Verboven, 42, was killed in the fire. His mother, 69-year-old Barbara Verboven, was hospitalized. Firefighters reportedly pulled a man and woman from the home. The fire was apparently intentionally set.

Neighbors say the residents were hoarders. Police said the large amount of clutter inside the home made it difficult for firefighters to fight the fire and get the victims out. Homes with such conditions are known colloquially in the fire service as “Collyer’s Mansions.”
