One NY Firefighter Injured at Massive Five-Alarm Warehouse Fire

According to a report from RochesterFirst.com, crews with the Rochester (NY) Fire Department (RFD) continue to monitor hotspots Tuesday morning from a massive, five-alarm fire at a warehouse on Otis Street that erupted Monday night.

Firefighters said the 52,000-square-foot warehouse contained piles of wooden pallets, which fed the flames. The roof as well as three walls eventually collapsed.

One firefighter mentioned that, because of squatters living in the warehouse, this was not the first time crews had been called to the structure.

Several residents were evacuated as a precaution, with flames threatening nearby homes. The local utiity company, RG&E, disconnected power to the warehouse, which also affected area homes. The RFD said the residents of those homes are getting assistance with housing.

One firefighter was injured and transported to a local hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
