One of two San Francisco firefighters who were seriously injured while fighting a three-alarm house fire on February 5th was released from the hospital on Monday. Forty-year-old Lt. James App is recovering from first, second, and third degree burns while Firefighter Christopher Posey, an 11-year veteran of the SFFD, remains in ICU at San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Posey remains listed in stable but critical condition.
Deputy Fire Chief Pat Gardner says teams are still sifting through the evidence. San Francisco fire officials say the fire was set deliberately in the back of the house. They hope to wrap up their investigation of the suspicious fire by this week’s end.
In all, six firefighters were sent to the hospital. The other four firefighters, who have since been released, were treated for injuries including burns, respiratory problems, and a broken ankle.
The roof collapsed shortly after they entered the burning building at 627 Felton Street. More than 100 firefighters battled the fire that was believed to have been burning for a substantial period of time before fire crews were called. The fire was quickly brought under control within an hour by on-scene fire crews.
