One TX Firefighter Injured in Wall Collapse at House Fire

According to a report from KHOU, one Houston (TX) Fire Department (HFD) firefighter was injured when a brick wall collapsed on him as he fought a two-alarm house fire a few blocks west of the Texas Southern University campus at about 3:15 a.m. in the 2800 block of Palm Street early Wednesday.

HFD Deputy Chief James Pennington said three homes were damaged, and a fourth has water damage. All residents evacuated to safely.

Pennington also said that, while a crew was pulling hose, a brick wall from one of the structures, which was thought of as the first to ignite and was under construction, collapsed as firefighters worked to extinguish the fire, injuring one.

The collapse partially buried the firefighter, prompting a Mayday call, leading to the two-alarm all.

The cause of the fire is still not known. The HFD’s Arson Division will lead the investigation. Pennington said investigators will look into the cause when it’s safe to do so.
