Officials Fret Over Cost of PA Firefighter Cancer Presumption Law

Some local officials are raising concerns over the potential costs associated with Pennsylvania’s “cancer presumption” bill, which would fund cancer treatment for firefighters. According to a report on centredaily.com, State College (PA) Borough Manager Tom Fountaine fears this “unfunded mandate” could increase insurance costs for municipalities. The bill gives firefighters six years after the last date of active duty to file a cancer presumption claim and would extend workers’ compensation coverage will to types of cancer caused by carcinogens known to exist in burning buildings.
