A volunteer firefighter in Montgomery County died Sunday during a house fire that may have started on the roof as the result of fireworks, multiple news outlets are reporting.

ABC6 said Sean W. DeMuynck was found unresponsive on the third floor of the home in Wynnewood in Montgomery County and died at the hospital.

According to ABC6, DeMuynck had been a volunteer firefighter since August 2019 and, along with his wife, had planned to move back to their native Canada on Monday.

Fire officials are into checking reports that someone was setting off fireworks in the neighborhood at the time of the fire, ABC-6 reported.

CBS3, citing a statement from Lower Merion Township, said DeMuynck’s shift on Sunday was scheduled as his final one before the move to be closer to family.
