Paramedic Fired for Helping at World Trade Center

McKeesport, Pa., October 3, 2001—A McKeesport paramedic is suing his emergency medical services employer after he was fired for going to New York City to aid in the rescue efforts following the World Trade Center attacks.

Paul S. Fogle, a 22-year veteran of the emergency medical services, says he received permission for the trip—twice—in advance from his supervisor at Duquesne Emergency Medical Services Inc., where he has worked since April.

Then, according to the lawsuit, Fogle was called back while en route to New York City and told he would be fired if he didn’t show up for his September 13 shift.
