Budget Issues: Phoenix (AZ) Firefighters Accept Pay Cuts, Furloughs

Hundreds of Phoenix (AZ) Fire Department firefighters unanimously agreed to take a two percent pay cut and four furlough days over the next two years, as well as cuts to benefits packages. The move is designed to save three engine companies and 42 jobs, according to the United Phoenix Firefighters Association. The Phoenix (AZ) Fire Department will still lose 40 positions, but it is unlikely that any firefighters will be laid off because this loss will be comprised of retirees.
