The Roosevelt (NY) Fire Department responded to a working fire in a private dwelling on Sunday, May 2, 2021.

The blaze on West Centennial Avenue was well advanced on arrival. Heavy fire conditions were encountered on the second floor and into the attic.

Firefighters stretched handlines and companies moved in but were pushed back by the tremendous heat and a partial collapse of the roof.

An adjoining home sustained major damage from the radiant heat. Mutual aid companies also responded at the scene.

Red Cross officials arrived to assist the 15 displaced residents.
