On Sunday, October 13, 2019, the Chili (NY) Fire Department responded to a reported house fire at 155 Attridge road. The first-arriving chief found heavy fire from the attached garage and declared a worker.

Occupants of the ranch-style home were unaware there was a fire until neighbors came to the door. The couple and their grandson and the family dog all escaped without injury prior to the fire department’s arrival.

The first due engine pulled a 2 1/2-inch line and later two more 1 1/2-inch lines with 4-inch supply line from primary and second water. Even with second water, they had difficulties maintaining pressures.

The fire had self vented from the garage and the fire was beginning to run the attic. A vertical ventilation hole was made and the fire was stopped about halfway through the home.

The Churchville Fire Department was called for rapid intervention. Other departments filled in Chili’s stations.

The house is untenable and the family lost a brand new truck and SUV in the fire.

The Red Cross is assisting the family.  No firefighters were injured and the cause was determined to be unattended deep drying of a turkey in the garage.
