Fire Union Head Raises Concern Over Pittsburgh (PA) Firefighter Deaths

Joseph King, the head of Pittsburgh’s firefighters union, has asked for an investigation into the cancer deaths of nine firefighters over 13 years at the No. 24 Station. A letter from King addressed to Chief Darryl Jones says two other firefighters from the station are suffering from inoperable cancer, but declined to provide names or specific details about the illnesses and deaths.

King’s request comes in the wake of Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell’s recent veto of legislation that would provide cancer coverage for firefighters (Read Art Goodrich’s take on the veto HERE)..
