Plainfield (NJ) Firefighter Killed at House Fire

A Plainfield firefighter was killed Friday battling a house fire, according to a city official.

Firefighter Marques Hudson was killed “while bravely responding to the fire on Emerson Ave.,” Councilman Robert Graham posted on his Facebook page. Hudson had joined the department in December 2021.

Video posted by the councilman showed aftermath of the fire.

The councilman said city officials are at the hospital with Hudson’s family.

“I will provide updates as more information surfaces and service details are confirmed,” he wrote. “Together, let us mourn this heartbreaking loss and pay tribute to the extraordinary bravery of Firefighter Hudson.”

According to a report from NJ.com, Hudson passed away after he was transported to an area hospital from the scene of the three-alarm fire, and several attempts to revive him failed.

About 10 other people inside the home that burned escaped without injury, the report said. Four other firefighters were also hospitalized with various injuries.

The X account Alertpage indicated that a Mayday had been declared at the Emerson Ave. fire, and NJ.com reported that crews had to retrieve Hudson from the interior of the building.
