November, 12, 2001, Queens, NY–According to CNN, an Airbus A300 plane has crashed in the Rockaways section of Queens, NY. The plane had just departed JFK Airport en route to the Dominican Republic. The plane went down at approximately 0915 hours, about five miles away from JFK Airport. All NYC area airports are now closed. All in tunnels into NYC have also been closed. Mayor calls for Level 1 emergency. Preliminary reports state that the plane had 246 passengers and nine crew members.
1013 Hours: NYC officials report two crash sites, one where an engine from the plane came down and the seconde crash site where the plane actually hit the ground.
