Mergers and consolidations are hot topics of conversation within the volunteer fire service and often thought to be the cure-all solution for the membership crisis. However, if not done properly, they can fail miserably leading to unmotivated and disenchanted members, or even less members available to do more work.
Chief Ken Shuler, President Tom Walters and Vice President Scott Miles from the Limerick (PA) Fire Department join me to discuss their merger which formed a brand new department out of two others. It wasn’t always easy, but the efforts paid off. Listen in as they share their story and provide tips and information which can help the process go smoother for departments looking to merge or consolidate.
