Police: Man Planned Bombing for Kansas City Stair Climb

A 20-year-old Florida man has been arrested on suspicion of planning to plant a pressure cooker bomb during a 9/11 memorial observation in Kansas City, reports kmbc.com.

Joshua Ryne Goldberg, 20, of Orange Park, Florida, is accused of distributing information relating to explosives, destructive devices and weapons of mass destruction.

He would face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

According to the criminal complaint, an informant said Goldberg sent him information this summer about how to make a bomb with a pressure cooker and poison-dipped pieces of metal, nails, screws, broken glass and other sharp objects.

The records detail conversations where police said Goldberg told the informant to place the bomb at the Kansas City Stair Climb, a 9/11 memorial event planned Sunday in Kansas City that draws a lot of firefighters.

The informant was instructed in those conversations to place the device in a backpack near the crowd, but somewhere where it wouldn’t get attention.
