FDA: Prefilled Syringe Warning

The FDA warned resuscitation teams, ICUs, and EMS that certain prefilled glass medication syringes may break off, malfunction or clog when a user attempts to connect them to needleless intravenous tubing sets. Reports presently involve prefilled syringes of adenosine and amiodarone but the agency warns that other medications may be involved. The FDA is advising EMS services to check their stocks of prefilled syringes and consider carrying vials or prefilled plastic syringes as an alternative.
