Two members of the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) who worked at Ground Zero following the 9/11 terror attacks died on the same day last week, according to reports.
The New York Post says Firefighter Richard Jones, 63, and Lieutenant Paul Deo Jr., 74, both died of unspecified illnesses. Both members retired about a year after the terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers, the report noted.
As the years pass on from the attacks on September 11, 2001, more and more FDNY firefighters—along with police officers and those who worked at Ground Zero in the aftermath—are dealing with health complications. In September 2019, the FDNY added to its memorial wall the names of 22 members who died of illnesses related to their work in the rescue and recovery efforts.
Thus far, more than 200 FDNY members have died of World Trade Center-related illnesses.
