Exeter (RI) (WPRI) — Fire crews were called to 90 Ten Rod Road in Exeter around 4:20 Wednesday morning. Officials said they’ve been trying to put out a brush-compost fire since then. Crews remain on the scene.
According to Chief David Chamberlain, the fire is about the size of a football field. The chief said fire crews are waiting for excavation equipment to come so they can tear it apart. Mutual aid has responded from at least 12 departments to assist.
The state fire marshal and the Department of Environmental Management are also on the scene.
