A Sandy Springs (SC) firefighter was struck and killed while working at the scene of a separate motor vehicle accident, according to news reports.
WYFF (http://bit.ly/1Bh0oip) reports that Kenneth Stanton, 52, was struck when a driver went around emergency equipment that was in the road.
The driver left the scene and was later found at his home. He faces felony DUI charges, the report said.
The U.S. Fire Administration Firefighter Fatality report said Sergeant Stanton was directing traffic at the scene of a previous vehicle accident when an approaching vehicle drove around emergency equipment and struck him. Stanton was immediately treated at the scene and then transported to the hospital where he passed away from injuries sustained. The driver of the vehicle who struck Sergeant Stanton is being charged with felony driving under the influence resulting in death and leaving the scene of an accident.
