SC Woman Hoarding Gasoline in Stolen Vehicle Catches Fire After Crashing in Chase with Police

According to a report from WYFF, a 28-year-old woman who was driving an apparent stolen vehicle while hoarding gasoline caught on fire after police attempted to stop her Thursday night in Pickens County, South Carolina.

A deputy in a marked patrol unit saw a Pontiac G6 traveling on Jameson Road in Pickens and noticed that the car displayed a South Carolina license plate that had reportedly been stolen.

According to Pickens County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Chad Brooks, the vehicle approached the intersection of Jameson Road and Wolf Creek Road when the deputy turned on his emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop. The woman then turned left onto Wolf Creek Road and accelerated in an attempt to elude the deputy. The deputy then activated his vehicle’s siren.

Brooks said the woman lost control of the vehicle and veered off the roadway, completely flipping the vehicle, which immediately caught fire, causing multiple explosions inside.

As the deputy approached the car, the woman exited the car on fire. The deputy pushed woman to the ground to extinguish the flames. She was then transported to the hospital by Pickens County EMS personnel.
