A school bus carrying 40 students to their homes crashed into the rear of a tractor-trailer truck in on Thursday in Manatee, Florida, according to a report from the Lakewood Ranch Herald and WTSP 10 News.
The reports indicate that approximately 21 of the students on board and their bus driver were injured in the accident and rushed by multiple ambulances to nearby hospitals. Eight students were sent to Lakewood Ranch Medical Center, eight to Manatee Memorial Hospital and five to Blake Medical Center, according to a statement in the report from Margi Nanney, a school district spokeswoman. I was reported that by 8 p.m. Thursday, nearly all the students had been released into parental custody.
The driver of the school bus, Charles Robert Orr, 68, of Palmetto, was given a citation for careless driving after the incident, according to the report.
