Science Lab Fire Burns Five PA Students

Several middle-school students and a teacher were injured in a science lab fire in Carlisle (PA), reports USA Today.

A school official said that a fireball occurred when unknown chemicals were mixed, and that the unidentified teacher put out the flames with a fire extinguisher. Sources told WHTM that rubbing alcohol caused the fire and a small explosion.

Two students from Wilson Middle School in Carlisle were flown to the burn unit at Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore. Five other students were treated at Carlisle Regional Medical Center and discharged this afternoon. Their teacher was expected to be released soon after.
