Seattle (WA) Firefighters Rescue Three from Apartment Building Fire

According to a report from KING5, the Seattle (WA) Fire Department (SFD) rescued three people from a Rainier Valley apartment fire early Wednesday morning.

SFD crews responded to the “low-rise apartment building” on the 4800 block of S. Henderson Street at around 3:30 a.m., arriving on scene to find flames shooting from the second and third floors.

The SFD said ground ladders were placed to help bring down three residents to safety because there was too much smoke in the building’s hallways. One man leapt from the second floor of the building to escape the fire; he was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

The entire building was evacuated as crews worked to extinguish the fire. A Metro bus was requested and arrived on scene to keep the displaced residents warm.

The SFD knocked down and controlled the fire by 4:15 a.m., with eight trucks, four ladder trucks, and several command and support vehicles on scene. The cause of the fire is now under investigation.

The Seattle Department of Transportation tweeted at about 3:45 a.m. that all east and westbound lanes of S. Henderson Street between 48th Ave S. and 50th Avenue S. were blocked off.
