Six awarded fellowships to Harvard University program
The following fire officials have been awarded fellowships to attend the annual Senior Executives in State & Local Government Program at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University:
Mario Trevino, fire chief, Las Vegas (NV) Fire Department.
Monica Higgins, assistant chief, San Diego (CA) Fire Department.
Mark Ghilarducci, deputy chief, Office of Emergency Services, Sacramento, California.
Manuel Navarro, fire chief, Colorado Springs (CO) Fire Department.
David Fischler, commissioner, Suffolk County Department of Fire, Rescue & EMS, Yaphank, New York.
Curtis Varone, battalion chief, Providence (RI) Fire Department.
The National Fire Protection Association will pay the tuition for the officials. The International Association of Fire Chiefs covered travel costs associated with the selection process and will cover traveling costs to the university.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency`s (FEMA) U.S. Fire Administration/National Fire Academy conducted the selection process.
The fellowships were awarded on the recommendations of a nominating panel that included FEMA, fire service officials, and former program participants.
