Snow-Covered Hydrant Impacts Lancaster Firefighters

A city worker with a backhoe stepped in to aid firefighters who arrived to the scene of a house fire in the southern end of the city Monday and found the hydrant there buried in snow, reports lancasteronline.com.

Firefighters from Station 64 responded to the fire at Green Street and Southeast Avenue at 2:32 p.m.

“There’s just too much snow,” fire Captain Fred Lenhart said. “Trying to clear the streets complicates things.”

Fortunately, he said, a city worker who was clearing streets nearby stepped up to dig out the hydrant with a backhoe, Lenhart said.

The fire was under control by 2:48 p.m. A fire marshal was on the scene.
