LARAMIE (WY) — Three massive forest fires continued to grow in Wyoming as fire crews battled erratic winds and explosive fuel conditions.
The Squirrel Creek fire, burning 30 miles southwest of Laramie, had burned around 7,000 acres by Monday morning. It has forced the evacuation of an unknown number of area residents.
Aaron Voos, spokesman for the U.S. Forest Service, said the Squirrel Creek Fire was active Sunday night and was likely to grow substantially bigger. A federal management team would take over coordination of the firefighting efforts.
