A Spokane Valley firefighter who suffered a heart attack after going for a run at the end of his shift on July 21 will not survive.
Dan Patterson, Spokane Valley firefighter, decided to go for the run at the end of his shift, but soon turned back to the firehouse when he was taken ill. He collapsed on the doorstep of the station at about 12:40 p.m.
Firefighters at the station were able to restore Patterson’s pulse and transported him to the hospital where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. But Fire Chief Frank Soto released a statement Sunday that Patterson will not recover from his injuries, KHQ reports.
“His work ethic, his care for his family and others, and his passion for making sure the people in his life knew he loved them will remain with us all,” said Chief Soto. Paterson joined the department in 2009.
