Laramie, WY – Law enforcement officials have determined that the 10,819-acre Squirrel Creek Fire was casued by humans. At 6:30 p.m., the Incident Command Team said that the fire was 55 percent contained and, if the weather holds or rain forms, they expect full containment sometime on Saturday the 7th.
A public informational meeting will be held Friday, July 6, at 7 p.m. at Laramie Junior High.
By mid-afternoon Wednesday, the Squirrel Creek fire was 30 percent contained, but shifts in the wind and the changing direction of the fire meant that more evacuation and preevacuation notices were issued.
Just after 12 p.m., the Albany County Sheriff’s Office issued immediate evacuation notices for the Lake Owen and Dry Park vicinity, and preevacuation notices were issued just after 1 p.m. for the Muddy Park, Rob Roy, and Bobby Thompson campgrounds; the Rambler Subdivision; Lake Creek; Fox Park; and all intervening areas.
Larry Helmerick, the public information officer for the California Type 1 Incident Management Team, said more firefighters arrived late Tuesday and Wednesday to aid in fighting the more than 9,000-acre wildfire.
