This week marks an anniversary of two 1960 tragedies that occurred in the same New York City borough within days of each other. Two jets, one enroute to LaGuardia Airport, the other to Idlewild (now Kennedy) Airport, collided in midair, killing passengers and at least one person on the ground on December 16. On December 19, a fire aboard the U.S.S. Constellation in the Brooklyn Navy Yard killed 5O workers and injured many more. See the article and an editorial comment on the impact of the tragedy in the same issue HERE.
