Stockton (CA) Fire Captain Shot and Killed While Responding to Fire

A veteran fire captain with the Stockton (CA) Fire Captain was slain while responding to a fire, as noted in a recent U.S. Fire Administration notice.

On Monday, January, 31, 2022, the Stockton Fire Department responded to a report of a dumpster fire in the area of Aurora and Washington street. While at the scene, Captain Vidal “Max” Fortuna, 47, was shot. CPR was immediately performed and he was then transported to the local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The suspected assailant, a 67-year-old man, is in custody and investigation into this incident continues.

Captain Fortuna had been a firefighter for more than two decades and is survived by his wife and two adult children, reports say.
