Stony Brook University (NY) Students Evacuated After Dorm Fire

A fire at Stony Brook University forced students to evacuate from one of the college’s residence halls Saturday evening, reports The Associated Press.

The fire was reported in a dorm room in one of the 28 residence halls on the Long Island college campus.

University officials said there was no one in the dorm room when the fire began. It has since been extinguished.

A spokeswoman for the college said there were no injuries reported, but the building remained evacuated Saturday night. The spokeswoman didn’t immediately respond to questions about whether students would be permitted to return to their rooms later in the night.

The 1,039-acre campus is located about 60 miles from New York City and has an enrollment of more than 25,000 undergraduate and graduate students.
