Suffolk (VA) Firefighters Respond to Commercial Fire

Suffolk (VA) Fire & Rescue responded Wednesday to the scene of a working three-alarm commercial structure fire in the 300 block of Moore Avenue. Emergency communications was contacted regarding the Celadon DP fire at 7:47 a.m.

Fire Chief Michael Barakey advised that first units on the scene encountered heavy black smoke showing from the site. Preliminary information indicates there was an explosion at the site with multiple sides of the warehouse building blown out. The fire was initially marked under control at 8:32 a.m.

Responding units include EMS 1, Medic 1, Battalion 1, Engine 1, Engine 2, Engine 3, Ladder 3, Engine 4, Ladder 6, Safety 1, Ladder 5, Fire Marshal 6, Rescue 1, Battalion 2, Fire Marshal 7, Car 1, Car 2, Engine 25, Medic 6, Rehab 6, Chesapeake Engine 28, and Chesapeake Ladder 10. Firefighters from Newport News and Isle of Wight are assisting with backfilling stations in Suffolk.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
