Firefighters responded Saturday to a raging apartment fire in Sycamore, Illinois, that was reportedly caused by a resident using a grill on a balcony, according to a report. Fire photographer Tim Olk shared some images from the fire scene.

According to the Daily Chronicle, firefighters from more than 20 departments were eventually called to help.

Officials said the fire appeared to have started on a second-floor balcony and spread to the attic. The structure is reportedly a total loss, and 120 people were displaced, the report said.

According to Sycamore Deputy Chief Art Zern, crews made an aggressive initial attack but fire was extending through the building overhead in both directions, at which point firefighters went defensive. A smoke explosion reportedly occurred at the scene.
